Following the success of the pilot project “Smart Tunnel” that started in 2019 and included the installation of the first equipment condition monitoring system in a tunnel of Olympia Odos, ES SYSTEMS, a member of EFA GROUP, and Olympia Odos S.A., proceeded with the installation of the integrated predictive maintenance solution in 4 (four) additional tunnels including the facilities and equipment related to them (substation buildings and pumping stations) around Patras area.
Smart tunnel description
The integrated solution consists of sensors and software that monitor and record real-time data of all tunnel equipment such as fans, water pumps, power generators, UPS batteries, transformers, etc., as well as environmental sensors that measure atmospheric data inside the tunnels, such as air quality, temperature and humidity.
The sensor node developed by ES SYSTEMS, specifically for this project, collects data from the sensors installed on the equipment and processes it locally before sending it wirelessly to the cloud. There the data is stored and then analysed using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms. The results of the monitored equipment are presented to the end user in real-time for each of the 4 tunnels of the Patras Perimeter.
What are the benefits of the system?
The benefits of the system are multiple:
- Increased equipment lifetime
- Significant savings in repair and maintenance costs
- Early detection of failures and faster repair on scheduled days and times. o Reduced maintenance costs and reduced maintenance costs.
- Reduced maintenance costs.
- Reduced maintenance costs. o Early detection of failures and faster repair on scheduled days and times.
- Real-time monitoring of metrics such as temperature, vibration, power consumption, etc.
- Greater safety for passengers and employees through uninterrupted operation of equipment.
Statement
“Following the successful pilot project, we proceeded with the installation of the predictive maintenance solution in all the tunnels of the Patras Perimeter. We are very happy that our solution provides safety, while allowing the early detection of faults and faster repair. The system consists of a network of sensors and the smart sensor node developed by ES Systems and transmits the data wirelessly to a platform on which the results are displayed in real time,” said ES SYSTEMS Chief Business Officer Dr. Emmanuel Zervakis.
